Torrox: the largest German community on the Costa del Sol + native service in German
With 1,630 kWh per kWp per year (PVGIS v5.2, SARAH2 database, European Commission data, coordinates 36.7594°N / -3.9492°W, 30° tilt, 14% losses, crystalline silicon, verified April 2026), Torrox has solar production similar to Málaga city — consistent and stable (year-to-year standard deviation of just ±36 kWh, one of the most predictable yields in the province). A 5 kWp system generates roughly 8,150 kWh per year, enough to cover the electricity use of a 3–4 person home with air conditioning.
Torrox has 22,015 residents (INE, 2025 register) of whom 2,033 are registered Germans (source: torrox-costa.de/en/auslaenderzahlen, 31 December 2024) — 9.2% of the total population, the largest concentration of German residents on the whole Costa del Sol. Our fully native service in German (Beratung auf Deutsch: quote, contract, paperwork with the Town Hall and the distributor, advice on the Spain-Germany double taxation treaty) solves a real friction point — most local installers work in Spanish only.
Methodology and verified sources
Solar production: PVGIS v5.2 direct API (European Commission, JRC), SARAH2 database 2005–2020, coordinates 36.7594°N / -3.9492°W, 14% system losses, 30° angle, 0° azimuth (south), crystalline silicon. Queried 16 April 2026. Year-to-year standard deviation ±36 kWh/kWp (very low — predictable production).
IBI/ICIO: Torrox does NOT offer an IBI or ICIO rebate for solar self-consumption. Verified against Fundación Renovables + Torrox Town Hall (torrox.es tax ordinances, April 2026). No known ordinance update for renewables as of publication.
German population: 2,033 registered Germans (31 Dec 2024, source torrox-costa.de) out of 22,015 residents (INE register 2025) = 9.2%. Figure cross-checked against multiple municipal sources.
Market prices: consensus of 3+ active Costa del Sol installers + SotySolar + AutoSolar (April 2026).

How much does a solar installation cost in Torrox in 2026?
The average market price is €850–1,300 per installed kWp (21% VAT included), turnkey. In Torrox the range tends to the middle: mixed property types between seafront apartments (Torrox Costa) and traditional detached houses (Torrox Pueblo).

Tax incentives in Torrox (honesty first)
Being transparent: Torrox is one of the Axarquía municipalities that does NOT rebate IBI or ICIO for solar self-consumption as of 2026. Unlike Vélez-Málaga (50% IBI × 3 years), Torrox has not updated its tax ordinance to incentivise renewables. The tax saving comes entirely from the state IRPF deductions.
| Incentive | Saving | Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| IBI | — | Torrox does NOT rebate solar IBI. Verified against Fundación Renovables + Torrox Town Hall ordinances (torrox.es). If the IBI rebate is decisive, the neighbouring municipality of Vélez-Málaga (50% × 3 years) is an alternative. |
| ICIO | — | Torrox does NOT rebate solar ICIO. ICIO is typically €200–400 on a residential install. |
| IRPF DA 51ª (40%) | up to €3,000 | Spanish tax residents only (183+ days/year). Requires a pre- and post-install energy certificate (CEE, €80–250) and a ≥30% reduction in non-renewable primary energy. Primary residence only. |
| IRPF DA 62ª (10%) | up to €500 | New 2026 self-consumption deduction (RD-L 7/2026). Requires only the CIE (no CEE). Max base €5,000. Batteries included. |
Important for German residents: the German solar exemption §3 Nr. 72 EStG does NOT apply to installations in Spain (only to systems on German territory, source BMF-Schreiben 17 July 2023). However, under the Spain-Germany treaty (DTA 2011), solar surplus is taxed in Spain (IRNR 19% for EU/EEA residents) and is exempt in Germany via Freistellung, albeit with Progressionsvorbehalt (negligible tax effect, <€200/year on typical surplus). The IRPF deductions (DA 51ª 40%, DA 62ª 10%) apply only to Spanish tax residents.
Real example: a family home in Torrox Costa
Indicative example based on a typical Torrox Costa residential profile. Real owners can contact us for a personalised calculation — Beispiel für deutsche Residenten anfragen.
Profile: 140 m² built house, 3 bedrooms, terrace with sea view, split air conditioning, 2–4 residents depending on the season. Average monthly electricity bill: €115.
Proposed system: 5 kWp (10 × 500W panels) + inverter + no battery
Costs (VAT included)
- Solar installation: €5,800
- No municipal IBI/ICIO rebate
- IRPF 40% (if tax resident): −€2,320
- Effective cost: €3,480
Projected annual savings
- Annual production: 8,150 kWh
- Instantaneous self-consumption: ~45%
- Electricity savings: €650/yr
- Surplus compensation: €180/yr
- Total savings: €830/yr
Return on investment: 6-9 years (with IRPF). Over a 25-year service life, cumulative net savings exceed €17,500, after a 3% annual electricity inflation and 0.4% panel degradation.
German owner not tax-resident in Spain: no access to the IRPF deductions → effective cost €5,800, payback ~7 years. The surplus is declared under IRNR at 19% in Spain and is exempt in Germany (DTA 2011 Freistellung).
Torrox Pueblo vs Torrox Costa — technical considerations
Torrox has two clearly distinct urban centres, about 3 km apart:
- Torrox Pueblo (inland, altitude ~100–150 m): traditional Andalusian old town, whitewashed houses with ceramic tile roofs. Lower concentration of foreigners. More standard installations, small but well-oriented roofs. Some houses in narrow streets with shading at sunrise/sunset — detailed analysis during the technical visit.
- Torrox Costa (seafront, sea level): tourist and second-home residential area, with a high concentration of German residents. Apartments in blocks, developments with townhouses, villas on the first or second line of beach. Proximity to the sea → anti-corrosion structure (anodised aluminium + A4) mandatory.
- Communities of owners (Torrox Costa): many developments with an administrator and internal rules. Law 10/2022 + RD 244/2019 allow individual installations on a communal roof with notification. We handle the process (in German if you prefer).
- Production stability: the low year-to-year variability (±36 kWh) means production is very predictable from one year to the next. Torrox markets itself as having the "best climate in Europe" according to a MeteoGroup 2008 study (a comparison of 21 Mediterranean locations 2001–2007); this is a municipal marketing claim, not a continuous certification, but the PVGIS data confirms stable solar production.
