How does solar self-consumptionwork?

If you've never installed panels, this is the minimum to know before asking for a quote.

  1. The sun generates electricity on your panels.

Photovoltaic panels convert solar radiation into direct current via the photoelectric effect. The more radiation they receive, the more they produce.

  2. The inverter transforms it to alternating current.

The inverter turns that DC into the AC your appliances need. It's the brain of the installation.

  3. Your home consumes it first.

Generated energy goes straight to your electrical panel. Any draw (fridge, A/C, lights) is covered by your own production before touching the grid.

  4. Surplus is sold or stored.

Whatever you produce in excess is fed to the grid (surplus compensation on your bill) or stored in a battery to use at night.

The promise

Why we're different.

Three commitments we put in writing on every quote we sign.

01

A technician visits — not a salesperson.

The person on your roof is a qualified electrician, not on commission. They measure, not persuade. Their job is to understand your home, not close a sale.

02

The quote is what you pay.

Closed price, broken down line by line. No "extras discovered on site", no surprises on the final invoice. If we miscalculate, we own it.

03

We explain before we sell.

Free orientative calculator, almanac with smoke-free guides, PVGIS and BOJA data with sources. You decide from knowledge, not marketing.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a solar installation produce in Málaga?

Málaga produces 1652 kWh/kWp/year according to PVGIS (European Commission), using exact municipality coordinates. A 5 kWp system generates ~7,900 kWh/year — enough to cover 50–70% of a medium-sized household's consumption.

What VAT applies to solar panels?

Standalone residential solar installations are subject to 21% VAT — always. The 10% reduced rate only applies when the installation is part of a primary residence rehabilitation project (uncommon). Verify with your tax advisor before assuming reductions.

Are there active solar subsidies in 2026?

The Spanish national INEA P4 residential programme is CLOSED since 2025 (Next Generation EU funds exhausted). The 20% IRPF tax deduction for energy efficiency improvements (RDL 7/2026) is still active with a +1-year extension. Information only — we don't handle paperwork, we refer you to a specialized advisor.

How long is the payback period?

Typical payback in Málaga is 5–7 years for a properly sized residential installation (without battery) and average consumption. Estimate based on PVGIS, electricity reference 0.13 €/kWh (OMIE 2026 indexed market) and 30% self-consumption. Depends on actual consumption, roof orientation, and time-of-use pattern.

What is the maximum residential size?

Up to 10 kWp (20 panels × 500W) — the limit set by Real Decreto 477/2021 for residential self-consumption. Solar Master only handles residential installations in this range. For >10 kWp (commercial), consult specialized companies.

Which utility operates in Málaga?

In Málaga province the distribution operator is E-Distribución (Endesa group). Iberdrola does NOT operate here. This matters for your self-consumption installation legalization paperwork and grid connection.
