03 / RECURRING ANNUAL MAINTENANCE MÁLAGA PROVINCE

Solar panel maintenance and cleaning

Annual inspection, panel cleaning and inverter check so your installation produces near nominal capacity throughout the entire system lifetime.

What's included

  • Scheduled annual visit with prior appointment, team of 1-2 technicians
  • Visual panel inspection: microcrack detection, accumulated dirt, discolouration
  • Structure verification: tightness, oxidation signs, anchor integrity
  • Wiring review: junction box waterproofing, insulation, hot-spot detection
  • Inverter reading: error codes, production stats, comparison with PVGIS forecast
  • Professional cleaning with demineralised (osmotised) water and soft brush — no chemicals
  • Technical report to client with real vs expected output and specific recommendations
  • Email/phone support between visits for incidents or questions

How we work

  1. Scheduled appointment · Coordination 10 min

We call you at the start of each year to fix a visit in optimal window (typically spring after pollen + autumn after leaves).

  2. Visual inspection · 30-60 min

We climb to the roof with full PPE. Review panel by panel looking for microcracks, hot spots, discolouration, dirt, and structure state.

  3. Inverter reading · 15-20 min

We extract annual production history, compare with PVGIS forecast for your installation and detect possible deviations.

  4. Professional cleaning · 1-2h depending on size

We apply demineralised water with soft brush to remove dust, pollen, coastal salinity and bird droppings. Never chemicals.

  5. Technical report + recommendations · Same day

We email report with photos, metrics, real vs expected output comparison and action plan if anything needs attention.

Frequently asked questions

Why clean the panels? Doesn't rain do it?

Rain helps but it's not enough on the Costa del Sol. We have Saharan dust, pine pollen, sea salinity and bird droppings. These deposits form a layer that progressively reduces output. Annual professional cleaning recovers original panel capacity.

Is maintenance worth it after only 1 year of installation?

Yes, especially the first maintenance at the end of year one. That's when we detect defects covered by manufacturer warranty (latent microcracks, panels with lower output). If we miss the claim period, the cost falls on the client.

What if I clean the panels myself with a hose?

With tap water and low pressure it's safe. Risks: hard water leaves salts that reduce light transmission, high pressure can damage seals, climbing the roof without PPE is dangerous. If you're going DIY, better osmotised water + soft brush + harness. Professional maintenance includes structural verification that DIY washing doesn't cover.

How much output is lost without cleaning?

Variable by location and conditions. In dry zones with abundant dust (Antequera inland, Ronda) and infrequent rains, accumulated annual loss can be significant. On the coast with regular rain, less. Annual inspection quantifies it for you with your installation's real data.

Does maintenance cover possible inverter failures?

The comprehensive plan includes labour for minor repairs. Components (new inverter, new panel) are charged separately. If they're under manufacturer warranty, we handle the RMA at no cost to you — only our reinstallation labour if applicable.

Do you maintain installations you didn't install?

Yes. The first service includes a more detailed initial audit to understand which components you have (inverter, panels, structure) and validate state. From there, same service as our installations.

Which municipalities do you serve?

The 25 municipalities of Málaga province: all Western Costa del Sol (Marbella, Fuengirola, Mijas, Estepona, Benalmádena, Torremolinos), capital, Axarquía (Vélez-Málaga, Nerja, Rincón de la Victoria) and inland (Ronda, Antequera). If your municipality isn't listed, get in touch and we confirm.

Maintenance of a photovoltaic system isn’t marketing — it’s what keeps your real production close to the PVGIS forecast for your municipality throughout the system lifetime. On the Costa del Sol we have a particularly demanding combo: Saharan dust during calima episodes, pine pollen in spring, coastal salinity, and bird droppings near the sea. All this accumulates on the panel glass and reduces light transmission to the cells.

Why rain isn’t enough

Rain is a partial detergent: it sweeps loose dust but fixes pollen and leaves salts if water is hard. In coastal zones with regular rainfall the effect is better than inland; in Antequera or Ronda there are long periods without rain where dirt accumulates. That’s why the scheduled annual plan makes sense in any case across the province.

What happens during a maintenance visit

A standard visit has 4 distinct parts: visual inspection of panel and structure state, inverter diagnostic extracting production history and comparing with PVGIS forecast, professional cleaning with demineralised (osmotised) water and soft brush — never chemicals nor high pressure — and a technical report sent by email with photos, metrics and recommendations.

The detail differentiating professional inspection from DIY washing is structural verification: we check tightness of all hardware, oxidation signs in coastal salt environments, anchor integrity to roof, junction box waterproofing and, in the comprehensive plan, we do thermography with infrared camera to detect hot spots invisible to the naked eye (typically degraded cells reducing whole-panel output).

If you’ve just invested in a turnkey installation — see complete service — the maintenance plan is what protects that investment over the 25 years of useful life guaranteed by the panel manufacturer. The installation will work without you, but the difference between producing near optimal or producing progressively less as it gets dirtier accumulates year after year.

For shared residential cases with collective autoconsumo, maintenance is practically mandatory because the cost is split across neighbours and it’s hard for any individual to take on cleaning.

If you have battery installed or pending (see batteries and expansion), the comprehensive plan also includes review of battery bank state and its charge/discharge cycles.
